HOLDER SET FOR AUSSIE TITLE BID

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION CHRIS HOLDER STARTS HIS QUEST FOR AN FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX COMEBACK IN NEXT MONTH’S AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES.

Former world champion Chris Holder starts his quest for an FIM Speedway Grand Prix comeback in next month’s Australian Championship series.

The Sydneysider ends his four-year absence from the competition and has been seeded into the starting line-up.

Holder is a five-time national champion and last lifted the title in 2014 – a miraculous performance as he returned to racing in sensational style just months following a crash at Coventry in July 2013.

A big performance Down Under would seal him one of Australia’s spots in the SGP qualification rounds, which culminate in the GP Challenge at Gorican on August 24.

He joins defending champion Rohan Tungate, former World Under-21 champion Max Fricke, Sam Masters, Brady Kurtz, Jack Holder, Jaimon Lidsey and Zane Keleher among the seeded riders.

This year’s title will be contested over five rounds, with the opener at Adelaide track Gillman on January 3. The action moves across the Victorian border to Mildura on January 5, before Undera stages round three on January 7.

Round four takes place at new Aussie Championship venue Albury in New South Wales on January 9, before the champion is crowned at Kurri Kurri on January 12.

There will also be a qualifier at Gillman on January 2, and it features former FIM Speedway World Cup finalist Nick Morris and 2017 runner-up Justin Sedgmen, who is set to return to European racing next season.

They are joined by the likes of Mason Campton, Matthew Gilmore, Ryan Douglas, Todd Kurtz, Josh Pickering, Cooper Riordan and Jordan Stewart.

Ben and Zach Cook, Jacob Hook, Jedd List, Robert Medson, Jack Morrison and Kye Thomson complete the field.
