HOLDER STILL SEARCHING FOR SPEED

Former Cardiff winner Chris Holder admits his search for speed continues after he fell short of the Adrian Flux British SGP final last Saturday.

The Sydneysider joins World Championship leader Jason Doyle and World Under-21 champion Max Fricke in the Australian team at the World Games pairs event in Wroclaw on Saturday.

He heads to Poland determined to hit top gear again, after being passed by Matej Zagar for second place in last Saturday’s second semi-final at the Principality Stadium.

I MADE A REALLY GOOD START AND GOT INTO SECOND IN THE SEMI, BUT IT’S THE STORY OF MY SEASON SO FAR – I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH SPEED.

Zagar appears to be improving on motors tuned by British engineer Peter Johns, who also supplies Holder. But the Sydneysider, who tallied 10 points, says he didn’t have the pace to see off the Slovenian star.

He said: “I made a really good start and got into second in the semi, but it’s the story of my season so far – I don’t have enough speed.

“I was just trying to defend a little bit because I didn’t have the speed to go, but Matej was quick all night. He just rounded me up and that was the end of it.

“It wasn’t too bad, but it’s frustrating. I can’t race how I want to race because I’m forever making up for the speed I don’t have.”

Holder insists he’s still working with Johns and things are improving. He said: “It is going a lot better. But it’s still not quite what I need to do the job.

“I’m just working with him and trying to figure out what to do to get it going better. It’s just too hit-and-miss. It can be very good or very ordinary and in this field, if you’re not on the pace, you look terrible.

“It wasn’t too bad on Saturday, but I am better than that. It’s really frustrating to finish off like that. I got into a good position, but I couldn’t race. I just need to do some more laps and get better and better. Hopefully in the next one I’ll be on the pace and get some better results.”

Holder still enjoyed his weekend in the Welsh capital. He said: “Cardiff is always amazing. It’s always one of the best ones on the calendar. It’s annoying when you don’t get the result you want, but it’s always a good buzz with the fans. It went off well and the track was pretty decent.”
